Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
